Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White has announced that beginning July 1, 2015, veterans will be able to get an updated driver's license/ID card with the designation "VETERAN" under the signature on the front of the card.
Under Public Act 97-0739, veterans who have received an Honorable or General under Honorable Conditions Discharge can obtain the designation on their Illinois driver's license or ID cards.
Obtaining the designation is simple. First official verification is required from the Illinois Dept. of Veteran Affairs (DD-214 or Certification of Military Service is required). Once certification is obatined, the veteran may apply for new, renewal, or updated driver's license or ID card at any Secretary of State Driver Services facility.
To make this process easier, the Post would like to arrange for a representative from the Dept. of Veteran Affairs to come to the Post to certify DD-214s. Therefore we need to know who would be interested. If you are interested, and would like to obatin certification at the Post, please contact Herschel Nelson at 630-226-8484 in order to get on the list.
