On July 30, 2019, President Donald Trump signed the LEGION Act into law declaring that the United States has been in a state of war since December 7, 1941. The declaration recognizes approximately 1600 service members killed or wounded during previously undeclared periods of war. The Act also expands eligibility for approximately 6 million veterans who previously were ineligible to join the American Legion.
Under the Act, if you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since December 7, 1941, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving - you are eligible for membership in The American Legion.
